Buentello to Battle Overeem For Vacant Title

It has been reported at Sherdog.com that Paul "the Headhunter" Buentello will take on Alistair Overeem for the Vacant Strikeforce heavyweight title. The bout will take place at Strikeforce's next event on November 16th at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, CA.

Buentello will come into the fight riding a five fight winning streak. His last win came against K-1 Kickboxing vet Carter Williams at the Strikeforce/EliteXC event in June of this year. He stopped Williams in the 2nd round with some impressive striking. He looks to continue his hot streak and do more of the same to Overeem.

Overeem on the other hand is coming into the fight off of a TKO loss to Sergei Kharitonov at a K-1 HERO'S event last month. Overeem has made the jump up to full time heavyweight after spending most of his career fighting at 205 lbs. He's had a tough go of it lately losing 4 of his last 5 fights.

Also on the card will be the return of the tournament format. Strikeforce has announced that they will hold a 4 man tournament in which the winner may get a shot at middleweight champion Frank Shamrock. The participants for the tournament will be Trevor Prangley, Yuki Sasaki, Falaniko Vitale, and Jorge Santiago. With all four fighters being veterans of the UFC, this will prove to be one tough tourney.
