Updated Yarennoka! NYE Fight Card

It was announced at a press conference today in Japan that Fedor Emelianenko will officially face Hong Man Choi in a MMA match at the Yarennoka New Years Eve event in Sataima, Japan. Emelianenko last fought in April at a Bodog Fight event in his home country of Russia, where he defeated top 10 middleweight Matt Lindland.

Choi is coming into the fight off a K-1 World Grand Prix quarterfinal loss to Jerome Le Banner. Choi was defeated via unanimous decision.

This announcement doesn't come as much of a surprise, as this match has been rumored for about a month or more.

Another fight that was officially announced for the card was 2006 PRIDE welterweight grand prix winner Kazuo Misaki will go up against 2-time K-1 HERO'S lightheavyweight grand prix winner Yoshihiro Akiyama.

Akiyama comes into the fight off of an impressive KO victory over highly regarded middleweight Denis Kang. He has another tough test on his hands in this one, as Misaki has never been KO'd.

Misaki hasn't fought since PRIDE 33 in February, where he lost to Frank Trigg by decision. If he can shake the ring rust and get a win here it will definitely solidify a spot for him in the top 10 middleweights in the world.

The finalized card should be coming soon.

EliteXC "Renegade" 11/10/07

EliteXC returns to Showtime tomorrow night with a very interesting fight card. This time the promotion will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to feature some of their top fighters.

The main event of the night will feature former UFC and PRIDE fighter Nick Diaz against the up-and-coming K.J. Noons. This bout will be for the vacant Elite XC lightweight (160 lbs.) title.

Diaz is coming into the fight off a lackluster decision win over Mike Aina at the EliteXC Hawaii show in September. It was his first fight back from a 9-month suspension for using marijuana prior to his fight with Takanori Gomi at PRIDE 33 in February of this year.

Noons earned his title shot after defeating highly regarded lightweight Edson Berto at the ShoXC debut show in July. Prior to that he had suffered the first KO loss of his career against Charles "Krazy Horse"Bennett. That loss came as a surprised to a lot of people, considering that Noons is a professional boxer as well as professional MMA fighter.

I have to give Diaz the advantage in this one. He's the more well rounded fighter, and definitely has much more big fight experience. If he can get it to the ground I think he will be able to lock up the victory via submission.

Also on the card will be the professional MMA debut of Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson, who will battle journeyman Bo Cantrell. Xtreme Couture's Mike "Quicksand" Pyle will go up against top-10 welterweight Jake Shields on the main card as well.
